Nine people are arrested at DUI checkpoint, including one person who was apprehended after a short chase
Nine people were arrested during a DUI/driver's license checkpoint in Fontana on Jan. 19, according to the Fontana Police Department.
The checkpoint took place from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Arrow Boulevard at Nuevo Avenue.
As a result of this operation, four people were arrested for driving under the influence, and five other individuals were arrested for having outstanding warrants.
One individual was apprehended after speeding through the checkpoint, endangering the line officers by failing to yield. After a short pursuit of the vehicle, the driver was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of both alcohol and drugs.
Of the 604 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint, 26 were screened in a secondary location. Fifteen vehicles were towed for various reasons, including driving without a license, and a total of 47 citations were issued for various traffic violations.
Funding for this checkpoint was provided to the Fontana P.D. by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
