So Why Doesn’t The U.S. Stop China’s Hacking?
Once again, the issue of Chinese hacking of American government, industry, and American citizens has come to the fore, this time from the NSA that issued a map detailing where the hackers have attacked.
The map details and provides a picture of what the Chinese are looking for. Of course they’re looking for whatever secrets they can exploit for financial gain and political influence. It has put the American cyber police on their toes but it looks like there’s no way to stop it.
The Chinese are specifically looking for Silicon Valley secrets. Also a surprise is that their hackers are going after certain businesses, large and small and specific Americans, probably those they feel have assets or are a threat to certain businesses and industries in China. China is notorious for lying and stealing. They’ve beaten around the bush regarding piracy and forgery which are multi-billion dollar businesses they’re not going to turn down.
The bottom line here is that China cannot be trusted one iota. It may be that the government would like to crack down on criminals, but the sheer number of them makes the task next to impossible to enforce. It also shows how vulnerable the U.S., is regarding cyber security, an issue that professionals have said the government and industry have ignored. It has become clear, however, that the indifference and negligence of government to crack down leaves them suspect as being in collusion with the Chinese hackers.
The American government has itself been busted for hacking and snooping into American’s private lives and businesses. It may be that the Chinese hacking is the result of outsourcing to put the blame on China instead of those within the midst of Americans who want to avoid any detection in their own nefarious schemes.
The public is still stymied as to why we’re even associated with China, given their abysmal human rights record, criminal activity, and unwillingness to put a stop to them. It’s because China means money and there are far too many American businesses and government that rely on China to provide services and investments. In other words, money is the justification the U.S., is using for its lack of enforcement of laws and efforts to countermand the hacking and other underhanded practices by the Chinese.
Overall, the only way it will stop is for the American people to stand up and fight, but that might be fruitless as the leadership, the legislators, and all three branches of government continue to acquiesce to the Chinese. They’re all making profit from China and as long as that money is flowing, you’ll likely not see anyone break a sweat fighting Chinese hacking and crime.
