Woman shot five times after social media date gone wrong
A social media meeting turned into a morning of violence for one Memphis woman. She is now in the hospital healing from her gunshot wounds, and police are searching for the man who shot her five times.
The victim told FOX13 she met the man on a mobile chat site called Moco. The alleged shooter portrayed himself as a good guy, but the meeting quickly turned violent.
"He was like a completely different person,” the woman, who didn’t want to be identified, told FOX13.
She said when they finally met face-to-face, the man wanted more than a friendship.
"I reminded him I don't have sex with everybody,” the woman said of her meeting. “I'm old fashioned, especially (since) we just now meeting each other face-to-face."
After she refused to have sex with the man she called “Dereck,” the victim told FOX13 he got mad. According to the police report, the suspect drove her to Heistan Street and told her to get out.
"He said it is hard feelings, and he just started shooting me,” the victim said.
A resident heard the woman's scream for help and called police. Police said they have the shooter on surveillance video from residents.
There is not a clear name for the suspect. The victim told FOX13 he goes by “Tyrone” on Moco, but “Dereck” in person.
